Dayglo Abortions Members Arrested in U.S. Over Weekend

Two members of the B.C. hardcore punk band Dayglo Abortions, Murray Acton and Matthew Fiorito, were arrested by U.S. authorities over the weekend. The reason for their arrest remains unclear, but reports suggest it may be related to possession and distribution of illegal substances.

According to Joe Fiorito, the father of Matthew Fiorito, the guitarist with Dayglo Abortions since 2015, he hasn't spoken with his son since the arrest. Joe expressed hope that his son is okay and that the tour can continue. The band was on a massive cross-country tour across the states at the time of the arrests.

The arrests of Acton and Fiorito are not the first time Dayglo Abortions have made headlines. In 1988, their early albums prompted criminal obscenity charges in Ontario. However, it was not the band members who were charged, but the record label Fringe Product Inc. and distributor Record Peddler. A jury ultimately found both companies not guilty in the case.

As of Monday morning, Acton and Fiorito remained in custody according to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office website. The specific nature of the charges against them in the current situation remains unclear. The Ashland authorities indicated charges would likely be laid on Monday, according to Joe Fiorito.

Dayglo Abortions' early albums were involved in the criminal obscenity case in Ontario, but the band members were not charged. The band has previously made headlines due to their controversial music and lyrics. Joe Fiorito has expressed hope that the tour can continue, and it remains to be seen how this latest development will affect their career.

The News website has reached out to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office for more information, but no further details have been disclosed as of yet. The arrests represent a significant event for the band, potentially marking a major breakthrough in their career. However, the specific nature of the charges, if any, against Acton and Fiorito has not been disclosed.
