Augsburg City Library: A Comprehensive Guide

The Augsburg City Library offers a wealth of services and resources for residents and visitors alike. Here's a rundown of what you can expect when you join the library or make use of its facilities.

Library Cards

Library cards, issued at the service desk in the entrance area, grant access to services at all locations. These cards are not transferable. Renewal of the library card can be done in person or online for adults without discount or with permanent discount. For temporary or new discounts, proof must be provided in person on site.

Access to Services

With a valid library card, you can borrow and return media, use the internet, print pages for a fee at the central location at Ernst-Reuter-Platz, and make use of print and copy machines. Library users are also able to reserve spaces for learning, working, or making music.

Fees and Charges

Fees for the city library include an annual pass (€20.00), reduced annual pass (€10.00 for certain groups), family pass (€30.00), and a reservation fee (€1.00 per media unit). Individuals without a library card can borrow up to 5 media for a one-time fee of €3.00. All incurred fees can be paid either on-site at the library or online via the Online Catalog.

Borrowing and Returning Media

Borrowed media can be returned to the location where they were borrowed. Media can also be reserved for a fee of €1.00 per medium. It's important to note that late fees apply for overdue media, with the first reminder costing €5.00, the second reminder costing an additional €10.00, and an enforcement order costing an additional €21.00.

Internet Usage

Wi-Fi connections are available at the locations Ernst-Reuter-Platz, Kriegshaber, and Lechhausen, allowing you to use your own mobile devices on-site without a valid library card. You can also reserve an internet station up to 14 days in advance for a maximum of 120 minutes per day (children: 60 minutes per day) at the city library at Ernst-Reuter-Platz or the district library Lechhausen.

Maintenance Days

Internet PCs are usually maintained on the first Monday of each month. On these days, PC usage is not possible.

Lost or Stolen Cards

If a library card is lost, it should be reported immediately to prevent potential misuse. A replacement card costs €3.00.

Special Facilities

The city libraries at Ernst-Reuter-Platz and Lechhausen offer the possibility to rent several learning rooms. The music studio next to the music library on the 2nd floor of the city library at Ernst-Reuter-Platz is equipped with instruments and technical equipment. The S-Forum, the 130 sqm large event hall of the Stadtbibliothek Augsburg, can accommodate a maximum of 120 people (row seating) and is available for rent for events such as readings, conferences, workshops, etc.
