Lloyds Tour of Britain Men 2025: A Star-Studded Lineup Awaits

The cycling world is abuzz with anticipation as the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men 2025 approaches. The race, set to begin next Tuesday, 2 September, will see a host of top riders take to the UK's roads, promising an exhilarating week of competition.

One of the most exciting aspects of this year's event is the return of Tao Geoghegan Hart (Lidl-Trek) after an eight-year absence. Geoghegan Hart, a British rider who won the Giro d'Italia in 2020, is sure to be a crowd favourite as he competes in his home race.

Another rider to watch is Olav Kooij, who won four consecutive stages and the points jersey in 2023, his last appearance at the Tour of Britain. Kooij, a teammate of Matthew Brennan, will be aiming to repeat his impressive performance this year.

Brennan, a rider from Visma-Lease a Bike, has had a phenomenal debut season, winning 11 professional races in 2025. He will be joined by Oscar Onley, who recently placed fourth at the Tour de France and won the best young rider jersey at the Tour of Britain 12 months ago.

The race will move to the middle of the country, starting in East Suffolk, and will finish in Wales. It will be held over six stages, from September 2 to Sunday 7 September. The race will also include a few hilly stages, providing a challenging and exciting test for the riders.

The start list for the race can be found on British Cycling's website, which includes nine former Tour of Britain Men stage winners. Among them are Kooij, Edoardo Affini, Julian Vermote (all Visma-Lease a Bike), Alaphilippe and Matteo Trentin (both Tudor Pro Cycling), Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Matevž Govekar (Bahrain Victorious), Ben Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), Rasmus Tiller (Uno-X Mobility), and Oscar Onley.

Besides Matthew Brennan and Oscar Onley, key favourites for the overall classification include Remco Evenepoel, Romain Grégoire, Olav Kooij, Tord Gudmestad, Hugo Hofstetter, and Thomas Pidcock. The race will also feature experienced riders such as John Degenkolb (Picnic PostNL) and Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility), who have both won Monuments and Grand Tour stages.

Notably, Geraint Thomas, a rider for Ineos Grenadiers, will be retiring from professional cycling after the Tour of Britain. Thomas, a three-time Tour de France winner, is sure to be given a warm farewell by the British fans.

Jonathan Day, managing director of British Cycling Events, stated that everything is in place for what will be another incredible edition of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men. "We are incredibly excited to welcome these fantastic riders to the UK and can't wait to see them compete on our roads," said Day.

With such a star-studded lineup and a challenging course, the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men 2025 promises to be a thrilling event that cycling fans will not want to miss.
