In the heart of Alimosho Local Government Area, a peaceful rally organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the Lion Field was disrupted by suspected political thugs. The incident left several participants injured and caused a stir in the political landscape of Lagos.

The event, spearheaded by former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, aimed to welcome Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the LP's governorship flag bearer in Lagos, into the party. However, the rally was marred by violence, with reports suggesting that the attackers could be loyalists of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

Seye Oladejo, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos APC, vehemently denied any involvement in the attack, describing the allegations as baseless. In an interview with Vanguard, Oladejo asserted that the opposition, as it currently stands, poses no threat to the APC and that they are not interested in the opposition's inability to put their house in order. He further urged all law enforcement agencies to ensure that the peace of the state is not disrupted by political jobbers.

Meanwhile, Oladejo claimed that the APC, as the ruling party, is the greatest stakeholder in maintaining peace and tranquility in the state. He went on to say that the opposition is not helping democracy grow by accusing the APC of causing their internal rifts.

Amidst the chaos, Oladejo called on the opposition not to throw the state into turmoil and denied any role in the failure of the ADC rally. Reports suggest that policemen deployed to the ground were overwhelmed during the attack, but no new information about arrests has been released by the Lagos State Police Command as of press time.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) claimed responsibility for the attacks on the event of the Lagos chapter of the African Democratic Congress. However, the interview did not provide new information about Peter Obi, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Rauf Aregbesola, or the 2027 general elections.

The rally had the goal of sensitizing residents on voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections. As the political landscape in Lagos continues to evolve, it is crucial for all parties to prioritize peace and dialogue in their pursuit of power.
