In the heart of Germany, the city of Giessen is currently a hub of elephant-themed activities. The city, known for its academic institutions, is now attracting attention for a different reason - its unique summer-autumn project, "Giessen is ELEFANTSIAN because...".

The pièce de résistance of this project is the life-sized model of a mammoth baby named "Majuba", which is on display at the Herrmann-Hoffmann-Academy. Visitors can't help but be captivated by this majestic creature.

The Elephant Parade, a vibrant and colourful event, is also taking place in Giessen. Elephants, both large and small, can be seen riding rickshaws, adding a touch of whimsy to the city streets.

The Tourist Information in Giessen, located at a site that once housed exotic animals, including elephants, at the end of the 19th century, is open from Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays, 10 am to 2 pm. Here, visitors can purchase various fantastical products with the Elephant Toilet motif, including T-shirts, mugs, bags, and magnets. In addition to these, the Tourist Information also offers regional products such as honey and spirits under the label "Good from Gieessen".

The Elephant Toilet, a pivot and focal point for the actions to "Off to the Center" in Giessen, is not just a tourist attraction. It's also a venue for games, with ELEFANTASTIC Chess being a popular choice. Music, provided by Elephant Living Spaces and Fair Trade City Giessen, adds to the festive atmosphere.

The city's economic development has also benefited from this project. The Economic Development of the City of Giessen won funding for the project in the Hessian competition "Off to the Center - Bring Life to the City".

The Mascot Meeting, another exciting event, is also happening in Giessen. Benjamin Blümlen, a popular mascot, is a guest at this event.

A Literature Day about Elephants is also happening in the city, offering a more intellectual approach to the city's elephant-themed activities.

Finally, the highlight of the upcoming year will be when the Elephant Toilet pulls the Gießen Christmas ball. This unique spectacle is sure to make Giessen's Christmas celebrations unforgettable.

So, if you're looking for a unique and entertaining city break, Giessen, with its elephant-filled streets, is the place to be.
