Property Distribution: Kim Chen to Allocate New Homes to Families of Deceased Russian Soldiers in War
North Korea Announces Monument for Fallen Soldiers in Ukraine
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has announced plans to build a monument in Pyongyang to honour the soldiers who died fighting in Ukraine. According to reports, around 12,000 North Korean troops were sent to support Russia in the war against Ukraine, with estimates suggesting that around 600 of them were killed.
The exact scale of the deployment and the number of casualties have not been publicly disclosed by North Korea or Russia. However, Western intelligence estimates put the number of casualties above 6,000.
Kim Jong Un delivered a speech praising the immortal heroic deeds of the soldiers who died defending North Korea's resilience and honour. He expressed regret that it was not possible to save the lives of the North Korean soldiers, and promised a "beautiful life" to the families of those who died fighting on foreign battlefields.
In his speech, Kim did not mention where the soldiers died or who they were fighting against. However, North Korean state television aired a 25-minute documentary featuring footage of soldiers, presumably on the battlefield, somewhere in the Kursk region of Russia.
The families of the deceased were reportedly unaware of their loved ones going off to war. In official photos, Kim posed with the parents and wives of around 200 deceased soldiers. He presented flags and portraits of the fallen soldiers to their families.
The families of the fallen soldiers will be able to visit the monument and pay their respects at any time. Kim Jong Un has announced that the ashes of the fallen soldiers will be buried in a monument in the Taesong District of Pyongyang.
Kim's speech created an unprecedented legend of love and trust in North Korean history. The families of the deceased burst into tears at Kim Jong Un's passionate sincerity in praising the immortal merits and invaluable lives of the fallen soldiers. The soldiers left letters expressing their wish for the Motherland to prosper and for Pyongyang to flourish, according to Kim Jong Un.
The North Korean dictator did not mention where the letters were left or to whom they were addressed. The soldiers were trained in eastern Russia at locations such as Ussuriysk, Ulan-Ude, and Knyazye-Volkonskoye, and fought mainly in the Russian Kursk Oblast near the Ukraine border under Russian command and wearing Russian uniforms with fake identities.
