Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced a package of nine sanctions against Israel in response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza. The measures, expected to be approved at Monday's Cabinet meeting, were announced due to concerns over the humanitarian situation in the region.

Sanchez stated that over 250,000 people are currently facing hunger as a result of Israeli operations. He also accused Israel of injuring 15,900 people and causing the displacement of nearly 2 million people, with half of them being minors.

The first measure of the announced sanctions is a formalized arms embargo through a royal decree, banning all trade in weapons, ammunition, and military equipment with Israel. Sanchez also announced a ban on flights transporting defense materials through Spanish airspace.

Individuals accused of participating in genocide, war crimes, or rights violations in Gaza will be barred from entering Spain. This includes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and all members of Israel's government, with Israeli government officials Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich explicitly mentioned and their entry blocked through the Schengen Information System.

In addition, imports from Israeli settlements on Palestinian land will be banned. Sanchez noted that Spain lacks nuclear weapons, aircraft carriers, or vast oil reserves, but will continue to try to halt Israel's actions in Gaza.

To support the humanitarian efforts, Sanchez declared that humanitarian aid for Gaza will be raised to €150 million. Spain will also boost its contribution to UNRWA by €10 million ($11.72 million).

Furthermore, Spain's role in humanitarian projects, including the E.U. mission at the Rafah crossing, will be increased. Sanchez also announced a strengthening of Spain's cooperation with the State of Palestine.

Consular services for Spaniards living in Israeli settlements will be limited, and Sanchez stated that what Israel is doing in Gaza is not defense, but destroying a defenseless people.

If approved, the measures will enter into effect immediately. The announcement comes amidst ongoing conflict in Gaza, with both sides calling for a ceasefire.
