Previously employed Department of Justice attorney joins environmental advocacy organization
Environmental Law & Policy Center Strengthens Litigation Team
The Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC), a nonprofit organisation based in Chicago, has taken a more aggressive approach to environmental advocacy under the Trump administration. In a move to combat environmental rollbacks and protect the Midwest's natural resources, the ELPC has hired Jessica O'Donnell, a former deputy chief of the environmental defense section at the Department of Justice.
Jessica O'Donnell, who began working at the Department of Justice in 2004, joined the ELPC in early August. She will work as a senior attorney in the Washington office of the organisation, focusing on federal regulations and litigation related to clean air, clean water, and climate change. Her work is expected to significantly contribute to the ELPC's increasing litigation efforts.
The ELPC's decision to hire O'Donnell demonstrates their commitment to combating environmental rollbacks. The organisation, which is known for its environmental legal advocacy in the Midwest, is working to shut down coal plants and protect water resources like Lake Erie. In fact, the ELPC has recently sued the EPA over water pollution in Lake Erie.
The ELPC's focus on increasing litigation is not limited to O'Donnell's hire. The organisation has also brought on another former Department of Justice environmental litigator, although the name of this individual is not currently available. This hiring spree suggests a more aggressive approach from the ELPC, as they aim to increase their "litigation firepower" to push back against environmental rollbacks.
O'Donnell's prior experience at the Department of Justice is likely to be valuable in her new role at the ELPC. Her extensive background in environmental law will undoubtedly strengthen the organisation's ability to navigate complex legal issues and defend the Midwest's environment.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is seeking to restructure the environmental division at the Department of Justice. This move has sparked concerns among environmental advocates, including the ELPC, who are working to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
As the ELPC continues to expand its litigation team, it remains committed to its mission of protecting the Midwest's environment and promoting sustainable development. With the addition of Jessica O'Donnell and other experienced environmental litigators, the ELPC is well-positioned to take on the challenges posed by the Trump administration's environmental policies.
