In the heart of New York City, the US Open men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner was a spectacle of high-level tennis. However, the event was overshadowed by the unexpected presence of a former US President, Donald Trump.

Despite attempts at censorship, the protests against Trump's attendance were still audible during ESPN's live broadcast. Many seats remained empty even 45 minutes after the scheduled start, as frustrated fans were still stuck outside due to security measures.

Trump's behaviour during the match was described as "completely out of sync" with the rest of the crowd by body language expert Judi James. While everyone else was cheering and applauding, Trump seemed disinterested in the match.

The national anthem was met with boos when the camera panned to Trump, a reaction captured in numerous social media videos. Despite this, Trump smiled broadly at the camera.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova sharply criticised the situation, joining the chorus of disapproval. Rock legend Bruce Springsteen, a long-time Trump critic, was cheered on during the event.

Interestingly, during his visit, Trump was neither publicly criticised nor supported by specific politicians or public figures. The focus was mainly on the heightened security measures due to his attendance, with no mention of political or public endorsements or criticisms.

Trump's lack of engagement at the final underscored his less-than-enthusiastic stance on tennis. His apparent lack of interest was evident as he left the stadium after just 90 minutes, causing massive lines and security measures at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens.

Carlos Alcaraz, the eventual winner, expressed pleasure at having Trump as a spectator before the match. However, the mixed reactions among the New York audience were evident. TV networks were instructed to censor negative reactions, sparking accusations of censorship.

Trump's early departure and the security measures caused delays, with the final having to be delayed by half an hour. The US Open men's final was a memorable event, not just for its high-level tennis, but also for the unusual presence of a former US President.
