In an exciting development for the electric vehicle (EV) market in New Zealand, MG Motor has announced the launch of its new premium electric vehicle sub-brand, IM. This new brand is a joint venture involving SAIC Motor, ZJ Hi Tech, and Alibaba, and is set to revolutionise the EV landscape.

The first model sold in New Zealand under the IM brand will be the IM6 coupe SUV. This stylish and sophisticated vehicle is set to become available at MG dealerships across New Zealand later this year.

The IM6 comes in three variants: the IM6 Premium, IM6 Platinum, and IM6 Performance. The IM6 Premium, priced at $66,900, boasts a 75kWh LFP battery, a rear-mounted 217kW/450Nm electric motor, and a claimed WLTP range of 450km. The IM6 Platinum, priced at $77,900, features a 100kWh NCM battery, a 300kW/500Nm electric motor, and a WLTP range of 555km. The top-tier IM6 Performance, priced at $89,900, uses a 100kWh NCM battery, has an AWD drivetrain, two electric motors delivering 572kW of power and 802Nm of torque, and a WLTP range of 505km.

The IM6 incorporates a cutting-edge 800V Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform in its power system, offering a quasi-900V architecture designed for efficiency. This technology, combined with the IM6's ultra-fast charging capability, allows it to add 300km (NEDC) of range in approximately 15 minutes.

The IM6's interior is as impressive as its power system. It includes a 10.5-inch central touchscreen, a 26.3-inch immersive infotainment display, "fully collapsible" chairs, luxury seat finishes, smart device mounting magnets, and 20 high-definition audio speakers.

The IM6's intelligent driving system, IM AD, supports Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 semi-autonomous driving. This system, which has demonstrated adaptability to New Zealand driving environments during local evaluation, is enhanced by AI technology. Functions such as the Proactive Vision Supplement System (PVSS), Rainy Night Mode, and One Touch AI Chauffeur, all contribute to a safer and more enjoyable driving experience.

Rear passengers in the IM6 enjoy substantial legroom due to a 2,950mm wheelbase. The brand IM allows owners to create a truly personalised driving experience with magnetic accessory points and customisable user interfaces.

Prospective owners can experience the IM6 firsthand from November 2025. With its AI-enhanced engineering, exhilarating performance, and elegant design, the IM6 sets a new benchmark in attainable dream cars. The IM6 coupe SUV is not just a vehicle; it's a statement, a testament to the future of electric mobility.
