Potential for Traffic Chaos on Corpus Christi Weekend

Germans in predominantly Catholic federal states have a long weekend approaching due to Corpus Christi, but travelers seeking a quick getaway should prepare for potential traffic congestion, warns ADAC in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Traffic Club anticipates increased congestion on North Rhine-Westphalia's highways during the upcoming Pentecost weekend. Last year, the Wednesday prior to Pentecost was one of the 15 busiest traffic days of the year. Roman Suthold, a traffic expert from ADAC, commented, "With the bridge day, there is yet again heavy traffic on the federal roads." The worst traffic jams are projected to occur between 2 and 6 pm on Wednesday afternoon, when both commuters and travelers combine on the roadways.

Urban highway networks, along with routes to the North and Baltic Sea coasts and the Netherlands, are most likely to experience congestion. While Pentecost itself is anticipated to be less busy on NRW highways, it will still be a typical workday in the Netherlands, Lower Saxony, and the northern federal states.

ADAC anticipates delays primarily in North Rhine-Westphalia on the A1 (Cologne-Dortmund-Hamburg), A2 (Oberhausen-Dortmund-Hannover), and A3 (Emmerich-Oberhausen-Cologne-Frankfurt). Additionally, there's a high possibility of traffic jams on the A40 (Dortmund-Essen-Duisburg), A42 (Dortmund-Oberhausen-Duisburg), A46 (Düsseldorf-Wuppertal), and A57 (Cologne-Nimwegen).
