Postponement of Singapore basketball league final due to participation of players under investigation for match-fixing allegations in the semifinals.
The Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) has announced the postponement of the 2025 K. Star National Basketball League Division 1 finals, originally scheduled for Aug 30, to Sep 7. The decision comes as the BAS conducts a full review of a match-fixing case involving players of the Adroit National Basketball League Division 1 team.
In a statement late on Friday (Aug 29), the BAS asked for understanding and patience from all parties involved during the review process. The association apologised for the inconvenience caused to the affected teams and stakeholders due to the postponement.
The match-fixing case involving Adroit players was made public earlier this month. In response, the Adroit club has referred to a specific part of the BAS constitution, challenging the validity of the suspensions. According to the constitution, the disciplinary committee is responsible for adjudicating on misconduct or rule violations by any club, organization, official, or player.
The suspended Adroit players were part of the team's roster for the semi-finals of the competition, but their participation is not affected by the review or the suspensions. The postponement of the finals does not affect the semi-finals in which the Adroit team participated.
The Adroit team, however, has won a game against Siglap Basketball Club on Aug 27, with a score of 55-43. The team's participation in the semi-finals of the competition is not affected by the review or the suspensions.
The review includes determining whether further disciplinary action is necessary beyond the current suspensions. The Disciplinary Committee of the Singapore Basketball Association, appointed to handle the case, is also responsible for handling appeals after the first stage, and for referring such matters to the appeals committee.
The BAS has not yet made a decision on whether to uphold or overturn the suspensions, pending the outcome of the review. The suspension of the Adroit players remains in effect during the review process.
The BAS has requested all parties to cooperate fully with the review and to respect the integrity of the process. The association aims to ensure a fair and just resolution for all involved, and to uphold the values of sportsmanship and fair play that are central to the game of basketball.
