In the early hours of August 31, the Odessa region of Ukraine was hit by a massive drone attack, according to local media reports and monitoring channels. The incident, which is being referred to as a Russian attack, saw dozens of drones moving from the Black Sea towards Odessa and Chernomorsk.

The attack resulted in significant damage, with a cargo ship sustaining explosions off the coast of Odessa after striking a sea mine. Thick smoke rose from the wreckage of the damaged vessel, and preliminary data suggests that more than 50 drones were launched at the city.

The incident caused powerful explosions on the coast of Odessa, leaving over 29,000 subscribers without power. Restoration work is ongoing, with critical infrastructure running on generators. The city of Chernomorsk also experienced disruptions in electricity and water supply due to the attack.

Private homes and administrative buildings were damaged, fires broke out in some places, and there was one injured person. The Odessa district was the most affected, but the incident also caused disruptions in the nearby city of Chernomorsk.

Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke rising from parts of the ship, and local media reported that the incident occurred near Odessa's coast. Sea mines are reported to be floating in the area near Odessa, posing a threat to civilian vessels.

No specific details about the nature of the Russian involvement have been confirmed at the time of writing. DTEK, a Ukrainian energy company, confirmed a power outage in part of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district due to a local network failure. However, the ship line affected by the attack was not explicitly named in the search results.

The incident occurred late on August 30 and after midnight, adding to the tension and uncertainty in the region. The people of Odessa and Chernomorsk are now left to deal with the aftermath of the attack, hoping for a swift return to normalcy.
