Pope Ratzinger's former students call for a gathering in Rome, emphasizing the importance of human dignity in the discussion.
On September 27, a thought-provoking symposium will take place in Rome, with a focus on the Christian faith's unique view of people and its implications in contemporary debates on bioethics, transhumanism, and artificial intelligence. The event, which will be broadcast live by Radio Horeb, will run from 3 to 6:30 pm.
Professor Christoph Ohly, Chairman of the New Student Circle association, has expressed his expectations that the beauty of the Christian faith's view of people will be evident in the lectures. The aim of the event is to clearly demonstrate why the Christian faith thinks about people the way it does and how this leads to guidance for the present.
The symposium will feature presentations from various speakers, including Professor Ralf Weimann, who will delve into bioethical questions, and Stefanos Athanasios, an Orthodox theologian, who will discuss the foundations of Benedict XVI's understanding of human dignity.
Stefan Kampowski will speak on transhumanism and artificial intelligence, while Hanna-Barbara Gerl-Falkovitz will address questions of body, gender, and divine experience. Cardinal Kurt Koch of the Curia will open the event.
The symposium will be conducted in German, with Italian simultaneous translation available on-site. Participation in the event is free, but registration via the Student Circle's website is required. For those who wish to stay updated on the event, a newsletter can be subscribed to.
The event will follow a new structure, with five equally ranked presentations followed by a panel discussion. Professor Weimann's lecture will focus on bioethical questions, and Vincent Twomey will discuss conscience decisions.
The symposium promises to be an engaging and insightful exploration of the Christian faith's perspective on humanity and its relevance in today's world. Whether you are a scholar, a theologian, or simply someone interested in learning more about the Christian faith's view of people, this event is not to be missed.
