Pop star Justin Bieber joins the bandwagon of wearing compact timepieces
In the world of luxury watches, size matters, and it seems that celebrities are following the trend. Recently, two prominent figures, Justin Bieber and Justin Theroux, have been spotted wearing Audemars Piguet's iconic Royal Oak watches, but in different sizes.
Justin Bieber owns a 34mm white ceramic Royal Oak watch, adorned with rose gold accents. This watch retains the collection's signature octagonal bezel, integrated bracelet, "Grande Tapisserie" dial, and a thin automatic movement. The watch's white colour gives it a summery and carefree look, and it features the collection's signature blue cabochon crown and sword hands, setting it apart from the coloured Must watches. The watch is powered by the brand's automatic Calibre 2121 movement, offering a 41-hour power reserve.
On the other hand, Justin Theroux was seen at the US Open last week wearing an 18K yellow gold Royal Oak "Jumbo" Extra-Thin watch. This watch, with a 39mm diameter, has a matching integrated bracelet and a light blue "Petite Tapisserie" dial. Theroux's watch is a more traditional version of GΓ©rald Genta's famed luxury sports watch, and it still retains the collection's signature octagonal bezel and thin automatic movement.
The demand for smaller watches has been on the rise, with consumers requesting brands to add less-huge watches to their lineups. In response to this demand, brands like Audemars Piguet have released smaller versions of their flagship watches, such as the 23mm mini versions and vintage-inspired "Jumbos."
Meanwhile, at the photocall for Frankenstein at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival 2025, Jacob Elordi was spotted wearing a yellow gold Tank Louis Cartier watch with a green enamel dial and green leather strap. This watch, measuring 25.5mm in the Large size, is powered by a hand-wound movement.
Smaller watches, like classic Rolex Oyster Perpetual or Air-King models from the mid-20th century, are comfortable, varied, and relatively affordable compared to larger sport models. These watches offer a timeless elegance that appeals to a wide range of consumers.
As the demand for smaller watches continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how watch companies respond and adapt their offerings to cater to this trend. For now, it seems that celebrities like Justin Bieber, Justin Theroux, and Jacob Elordi are setting the pace in the world of luxury watches.
