Police scrutinize vehicle movement, zeroing in on drug and alcohol use and excessive speeding in a review of 100 vehicles
In a significant move to ensure road safety, a large-scale traffic control action was conducted in the city recently. The deployment, which involved 24 police officers, targeted several key issues, including driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol, and excess speed.
Customs personnel checked commercial traffic at the control point, while personnel from the city's environmental and urban greenery office were also present. The focus of the action was the prevention of major accident causes.
During the operation, a total of 100 motor vehicles were controlled between 08:00 and 14:00. Over 17 percent of the 3508 motor vehicles measured were found to be driving too fast, resulting in 96 drivers facing administrative offense procedures for speeding. Warning fines will be imposed in 505 cases of speeding.
Two criminal investigations were initiated for driving without a necessary driver's license. In two cases, there was suspicion of drug influence among drivers, and drug tests were positive. The deployment forces ordered blood samples to secure evidence in these cases.
Notably, a 21-year-old Ford driver stopped on August 21, 2025, in Parsberg, a 41-year-old woman from Remscheid stopped after fleeing police on July 11, 2025, in Wuppertal, and a 24-year-old male driver stopped on September 14, 2025, in Hardergäßle, were all subjected to blood tests due to drug influence. The first two are explicitly identified as those who gave blood samples after suspicion of drug use during control.
Six reports of administrative offenses were made for traffic violations, and a total of 48 warning fines were issued for various traffic violations. Driving under the influence of alcohol was one of the targeted issues, although no cases were reported during this specific control action.
The city authorities expressed their commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens and visitors, promising to continue such control actions in the future.
