Police pursuit concludes in crash event
In the early hours of August 15, 2025, a civilian patrol from the highway police attempted to stop a SUV for a traffic check on the A2 highway towards Berlin. The driver, a 17-year-old, ignored the stop signals and fled.
The pursuit continued onto the B1 federal road after the Helmstedt Ost interchange, passing through several towns. The driver ran a red light and even drove into oncoming traffic during the chase.
The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle during a slight right curve, colliding with a wall. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the pursuing officers.
Subsequent investigations at the scene revealed that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol. A breathalyzer test showed a reading of approximately 0.5% BAC.
Fortunately, no other road users were put at risk during the pursuit. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for observation.
The SUV was severely damaged and was no longer roadworthy. The 17-year-old now faces multiple charges, including illegal street racing and endangerment of traffic.
