Police in Prince George's County apprehended a suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a male resident in Greenbelt.
In the unincorporated section of Laurel, a tragic incident occurred on July 25, 2022, that has left the community in shock. The shooting, which took place in the 13200 block of Laurel Bowie Road, resulted in the death of William Denard Askew, a Greenbelt resident.
Upon responding to the scene, officers from the Prince George's County Police Department found Mr. Askew suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their best efforts, he could not be saved, and he died at the scene.
The identity of the suspect was soon confirmed as James King IV, a Laurel man. Mr. King was arrested by the police department and is currently in custody at the Department of Corrections. He has been charged with first-degree and second-degree murder.
At this time, the police department has not yet determined a motive for the shooting. It is unclear if Mr. King and Mr. Askew knew each other, as there is no publicly available information about any relationship between the two prior to the incident.
