Annoyance towards Hannover 96 - Police hinders Stendel honor celebration.

It all seemed perfect. But then, Hannover 96's plans to celebrate were thwarted by the intervention of the Hamburg police.

The season finale against promoted Kiel on Sunday. Hannover's stadium is full (49,000 spectators). The club had also planned to honor the successful U23 team on this big stage.

Disappointment for Hannover 96 as Hamburg police interfere!

The reason for this seems to be security concerns. After the major rioting at the second division match at the Millerntor in November, the police fear that many 96 ultras will travel to the U23 match on Saturday - and that there will be more rioting.

In November, the match was on the verge of being called off due to the rioting. The police even stormed the visitors' block and used pepper spray and batons against the 96 fans. There were injuries on both sides.

Disappointment at Hannover 96, the club had eagerly hoped to honor the U23s in the stadium. In two weeks' time, Stendel's team will play the second leg of the promotion play-off against Würzburg (June 2) in the WM-Arena - almost 10,000 tickets have already been snapped up.
