Poland and Ukraine's political agendas align closely, with President Karol Nawrocki leveraging Ukraine's situation and refugees to exert pressure on Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Despite deep-rooted political differences, Poland is following this strategy.

In a surprising turn of events, the Polish President has expressed his intention to form a coalition with the national conservatives and the anti-Ukrainian nationalists, aiming to bring an early end to the Tusk government and trigger new elections.

This move comes as the national conservative opposition is the only group in the Polish Sejm (parliament) capable of achieving the two-thirds majority required to override the President's veto on a bill protecting and supporting Ukrainian citizens in Poland.

The Presidential Palace has suggested that nationalistic tendencies have been more pronounced among Ukrainians than Poles for many years. This assertion is backed by references to the hero worship of Stepan Bandera and the handling of the massacres against the Polish minority in Volhynia in 1943.

The President's actions seem to deviate from the stance taken by former Prime Minister Tusk, who relies on patience, giving the new President and his team a certain period of adjustment. In response to the President's intentions, Tusk simply stated, "All beginnings are difficult!"

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, however, has emphasized the immense importance of an independent Ukraine from Moscow for Poland's security. He has urged all interests and controversial questions to be subordinated to this crucial issue.

The Union of Ukrainians in Poland, a national minority organization established in 1990, has accused the President of being guided by nationalist considerations in his veto. The Presidential Palace has responded strongly, stating that an attack on the President damages Polish-Ukrainian relations and shows a lack of gratitude for the support provided.

These developments have sparked heated debates and concerns about the future of Polish-Ukrainian relations and the stability of the Polish government. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how these tensions will be resolved.
