Poetry Recitation Event at Del Ray
On Friday, September 5, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub will host a special poetry event titled "Love Letters for a Troubled World". The featured poet for the evening is Rob Senkel, a local resident and Afghanistan War veteran, who is known for his work that primarily focuses on themes such as resilience, perseverance, healing, and love.
Rob Senkel, also affectionately known as "Bubblegum's Dad", a reference to his beloved Labrador retriever who brings comfort and healing to the Del Ray neighbourhood, will share his poetry inspired by his personal experiences and the struggles of the world.
After Senkel's presentation, there will be an open-mic portion of the evening where all are invited to read their poems on any topic. Whether you're an experienced poet or a first-timer, this is an opportunity to share your voice and contribute to the evening's theme.
The event is free and open to the public, and will take place from 7-9pm at St. Elmo's Coffee Pub, located at 2300 Mt. Vernon Ave. The poetry event will not include any advertisements, ensuring a peaceful and focused atmosphere for all attendees.
The theme of the evening, "Love Letters for a Troubled World", is derived from a poem Senkel wrote in honor of a friend's battle with cancer. This event promises to be a moving and uplifting experience, as we come together to share our stories and find solace in the power of words.
The event is being organised by Christina Chow, so come along and join us for an evening of poetry, community, and healing. Let's write our own love letters for a troubled world.
