Plane collision at San Francisco airport as United jet hits another jet during gate withdrawal

Two United Airlines planes were involved in a minor collision at San Francisco International Airport on Monday night, according to reports.

The incident occurred between United Airlines flight UA796, which was headed to Boston, and United Airlines flight UA1871, which was bound for Denver. The collision took place at approximately 4:39 AM on March 22, 2017, as confirmed by United Airlines.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the collision. Passengers on both planes were able to board other planes to reach their destinations. Local TV news station KGO reported that passengers described the incident, with one passenger on UA796 stating that the hit felt like an earthquake.

A passenger on UA796 also posted on Reddit about the collision, describing the experience as unsettling. The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation, but the aviation community has speculated that the failure of a tow bar of a tug may be to blame.

In May, a similar incident occurred between two United Airlines planes at San Francisco International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA is currently investigating the incident at San Francisco International Airport.
