Pixel 9 users have been experiencing color discrepancies in photographs, attributed to Google's processing algorithms.
In recent times, Google Pixel users have reported an issue with inaccurate colours in photos taken on their devices. This problem seems to affect the saturation and richness of the photos, making them appear different from reality.
The issue is particularly noticeable on the Pixel 9 Pro, but users of other models, including the 6 and 7 series, have also reported similar problems. On Reddit, numerous users have shared their experiences, often describing a shift or distortion in tones.
One user's example shows Google's processing turning an orange Ford Mustang Shelby into a richer red. Another user reported a sunset photo being washed out with yellow/orange hues due to Google's processing. Some users find the oversaturated and contrast boost in Google's processing undesirable.
Users have tried disabling Ultra HDR and "rich color in photos", but the issue persists. Enabling "Top Shot" temporarily alleviates the issue, but it must be done for each photo and cannot be kept on permanently.
Google did not mention any fix for this processing issue in its March or April patch notes. The April security patch offered a fix for "camera stability" under certain conditions for the Pixel 6 and 7 series, but the colour issue remains unaddressed.
Google's recent May patch did not address the Pixel camera's issue, but it did roll in a fix for a critical zero-day exploit. Interestingly, some users find a solution by using a Pixel 3, suggesting that the issue may lie in the newer camera software.
As a potential solution, Google could potentially rectify the issue by showing users a true-to-life photo in the viewfinder. Another approach could be delivering more control over the final image to users, allowing them to adjust the colours and saturation to their liking.
It's worth noting that there are ongoing phone deals available at Best Buy, Walmart, Samsung, Amazon, Verizon, and AT&T for those considering purchasing a Google Pixel device. Google has also released a May 2025 security patch, but whether it addresses the Pixel camera's colour issue remains to be seen.
For now, Google has not announced a new fix for the Pixel camera's colour issue. Users continue to share their experiences and solutions, hoping for a permanent resolution to this ongoing problem.
