PepsiCo Hits Water Replenishment Goals Early, Restoring Billions of Litres Globally

PepsiCo has completed its global water replenishment targets ahead of schedule. The company's efforts have restored billions of litres of water in high-risk regions. Local projects and partnerships have played a key role in achieving this milestone. Since 2020, PepsiCo has rolled out water-saving initiatives across its operations. In Germany, upgrades to wastewater treatment at production sites in Königssee and Heidelberg, along with collaborations on rainwater harvesting, have restored over 1.2 million litres of water by the end of 2025. These projects form part of a broader strategy focused on nature-based solutions to ease regional water shortages.

The company's approach extends beyond Europe. In the Dominican Republic, an agroforestry scheme in the Ozama River Basin replenished more than 177 million litres. Meanwhile, the Windy Gap Connectivity Project in Colorado, backed by PepsiCo, added over 1.3 billion litres to local water supplies. Another major effort, the Nile watershed programme in Egypt—run with CARE—delivered an extra 725 million litres.

To strengthen oversight, PepsiCo adopted the Alliance for Water Stewardship standard at all company-owned sites in water-stressed areas. This framework ensures consistent monitoring and sustainable water management. By 2025, the combined impact of these projects reached nearly 29 billion litres of replenished water.

Looking ahead, PepsiCo has set new goals for 2030. These include expanding replenishment efforts to franchise bottling plants and boosting water efficiency in production. The company also aims to provide safe water access to 100 million people within the same timeframe. PepsiCo's early completion of its water targets marks a significant step in its sustainability programme. The focus now shifts to broader partnerships and stricter efficiency measures. These actions will determine the long-term impact on global water security.
