Peak Travel Time Traffic Management: Officials Monitored Safety of Camper and Vehicle Convoys - Few Infractions, High Approval Ratings

The South East Hesse Police Headquarters has announced that they will be conducting targeted spot checks on highways in the region to ensure safe travel, especially for motorhomes and vehicle combinations.

This operation, aimed at identifying possible overloading among travelers, is a safety-relevant issue on heavily frequented highways, particularly during the vacation season. The focus of these checks will be on the permissible total weight, proper cargo securing, and the technical equipment of the vehicles.

Officers from the Traffic Inspection of South East Hesse Police Headquarters recently conducted a control operation on Autobahn 3 in Rodgau. During the multi-hour control, a total of 21 motorhomes, including vehicle combinations, and three trucks were inspected.

In the course of the checks, one driver faced a criminal procedure for suspected driving without a license and had to post a security deposit of 500 euros. Additionally, an offense against the applicable social regulations was penalized.

Out of the 21 inspected motorhomes, only four were slightly overloaded. In such cases, the drivers had to redistribute some cargo and luggage from the motorhome trailer to the towing vehicle before being allowed to continue.

The South East Hesse Police Highway Station, supported by officers from the Hessian Police Operations, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), and customs officials, conducted weeks-long controls on highways in the South East Hesse Police presidium region to ensure trucks and motorhomes were in a safe condition.

Especially during the vacation season, it is important to pay attention to the permissible total weight when traveling in motorhomes, as overloading endangers one's own safety and that of other road users. A scale was used to measure the weight of the combinations.
