Patriot team set to part ways with safety player Jabrill Peppers
Jabrill Peppers, the versatile safety who has played for the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and New England Patriots, finds himself on the free-agent market following his release by the Patriots.
Peppers, who was drafted out of Michigan with the 25th overall pick by the Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft, has amassed an impressive career with 99 games (85 starts) under his belt. He has totaled 511 tackles, 5.5 career sacks, seven interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and six forced fumbles.
However, Peppers' time with the Patriots was marred by off-field controversies. Last season, he was the subject of a domestic violence charge, which he was later acquitted of in January. In the same month, he also expressed his feelings about the accusations outside the courthouse, stating, "This was the first time in my life where football wasn't the most important thing on my mind."
Peppers also stated that being accused of crimes against children and women was the most egregious thing he could imagine. He played in just six games last season for the Patriots due to injury and time on the commissioner's exempt list.
Despite these challenges, Peppers was named a team captain by the Patriots and signed a three-year, $24 million extension with the team last summer. With his release, the Patriots are left with Jaylinn Hawkins, Craig Woodson, Kyle Dugger, Dell Pettus, and Brenden Schooler as their remaining safeties.
As of 2025, Peppers remains a free agent and has not been reported to be signed by any other team. The Patriots parted ways with him only recently, and he remains on the free-agent market. Peppers has $4.32 million guaranteed remaining on his deal for this season with the Patriots.
In a statement, Peppers stated that the accusations hurt him deeply. He is now looking forward to continuing his football career elsewhere and proving his worth on the field.
