Pathway to Excellence and Safety in Barcelona
The Autoterminal Barcelona, a key player in the city's port operations, has unveiled an advanced eGate system designed to streamline vehicle entry and exit processes, while also reducing the environmental impact and minimizing paper waste.
The eGate system, a project supported by the Port of Barcelona and its partners, is built on three main pieces of technology: a barrier and web portal, a drive-through vehicle inspection system, and an optical fibre network. This cutting-edge technology is backed by Global System Security, Innovation Strategies, Kearney, Precisión, Qubik, and Spinframe as main technology partners.
The drive-through technology at the eGate can process approximately 1,800 vehicles per hour, significantly improving the flow of traffic within the Barcelona port and reducing congestion. The system also digitizes the process of receiving and delivering vehicles by truck, eliminating the need for paperwork and creating a paperless workflow.
The inspection container uses AI to detect vehicle damage, generating a date and time-stamped report with captured images. Around 120 images are taken per vehicle during the inspection process, providing a detailed record of each vehicle's condition. This technology platform includes AI-empowered damage detection for individual finished vehicle quality inspection.
The fibre-optic ring network improves communication speeds, creates aggregate channels, and ensures continuous operation. The eGate provides high internet performance with 10GB of bandwidth at all times, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
Carriers can enter and reserve a timeslot for vehicle pickup using the web portal. Vehicle inspections at ports are digitized by the eGate system, offering instant reporting, remote access, and a centralized database for all inspection data. This improves tracking and maintenance, and supports a clear audit trail.
Automated access control reduces the need for manual checks, allowing for faster turnaround times. The eGate system, funded by the European Union and the Spanish government, also supports an improved double perimeter terminal security system, including a 4K camera network.
The funding for the eGate technology was provided through NextGenerationEU, the largest ever stimulus package in the EU. The eGate system at Autoterminal Barcelona helps lower emissions, contributing to a greener and more sustainable port operations environment.
In summary, the eGate system at Autoterminal Barcelona is a significant step forward in modernizing port operations, providing a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and secure solution for vehicle makers and carriers.
