In a significant move towards sustainable packaging practices, Ravenwood and Siegwerk have joined forces to promote the adoption of linerless label solutions across various sectors. This partnership is a response to growing concerns about waste and sustainability in the packaging industry.

The collaboration between the two companies is centered around linerless label solutions, with the aim to reduce material waste and transportation costs. Ravenwood's automated Nobac 5000 applicator, capable of applying lids to over 50 packs per minute, is a key component of this initiative.

One of the first applications of this partnership can be seen in the packaging of Zespri's kiwi line. This solution, designed to achieve carbon footprint reductions and transition away from traditional plastic flow wrap, made its debut at major American and Canadian retailers during California Apricot season. The TrayCycle trays, designed by Paper, Pulp & Film and printed by Superior Litho, target fresh produce, prepared foods, and foodservice meals.

Tal Cloud, president and owner of PP&F, stated that the Nobac 5000 reduces labour costs with high-speed automation. The pack features a custom window design for product visibility and presentation, and the design facilitates full-surface branding.

Another company, Loop Industries, is also involved in this eco-friendly initiative. Reflex Group's linerless lids aim to lessen material waste, negate the need for backing paper, and streamline both production and recycling. Another recyclable tray with a linerless lid was revealed by Tesco and Zespri earlier this year.

Blossom Hill has also adopted a fibre-based, linerless packaging format for its apricots. The partnership between Ravenwood and Siegwerk is an example of industry collaboration for sustainable packaging solutions and could potentially lead to more efficient and environmentally friendly packaging practices. This partnership aims to drive industry-wide changes in packaging solutions, making a significant step towards the adoption of linerless label solutions across various sectors.
