Parliamentary sessions will resume airing as of mid-September, according to the Rada.
Ukraine's Parliament to Resume Live Broadcasts from Mid-September
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has voted to resume live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions from mid-September. The decision comes after a draft resolution was posted on the parliament's website on September 1.
The draft resolution, which was supported by 266 MPs, noted that the current security situation allows for the resumption of broadcasts without creating additional risks. The technical solutions for the live broadcasts were provided by the STB TV channel.
The live broadcasts will be carried out by the state enterprise "Parliamentary Channel 'Rada'". However, it's important to note that the broadcast may not happen today or tomorrow, but rather at the next session.
Yaroslav Yurchishin, chairman of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech, predicted that the one-hour moratorium on broadcasting news from the Verkhovna Rada, which was lifted with the adoption of the resolution, may not result in immediate broadcasts due to necessary technical solutions.
The "Servant of the People" faction announced their support for the draft resolution. The vote was made during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday.
This decision marks the end of a one-hour moratorium on news from the parliament, which was in place since the introduction of martial law due to Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The live broadcasts of open plenary sessions of the Verkhovna Rada will be resumed as per the resolution.
The live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions will start from mid-September, providing the public with a closer look at the workings of Ukraine's parliament.
