"Park Sporting Event Succeeds Yet Again"
On August 11th, 2025, the tenth edition of the popular "Sport im Park" event took place in the heart of Gütersloh. This yearly tradition, a fixture of the summer holidays for a decade, attracted approximately 3,500 sports enthusiasts of all ages.
Organised by a dedicated team of 50 instructors, the event catered to various age groups, with classes designed specifically for children, families, and adults. A new addition to the schedule this year saw children's classes offered from 5 to 6 PM, which proved to be well-attended and popular with many families.
The organisers found the most rewarding aspect of the event to be the lively atmosphere and interactions among participants. Britta Thieme, a key organiser, emphasised the importance of the volunteers who give their free time to create a lively and instructive atmosphere. One heartwarming story shared was about a young participant who tried Capoeira at "Sport im Park" last year, joined Markus Glöckner's Capoeira school, and now teaches his friends at kindergarten.
The event was once again supported by program partners Stadtsportverband Gütersloh, Bürgerstiftung Gütersloh, Volksbank in Ostwestfalen eG, Landessportbund NRW, and AOK NordWest. The initiative encourages businesses to encourage their employees to engage in sporting activities, with the "Most Active Company in Gütersloh District" initiative being a new feature this year. The collected signatures will be counted in the coming weeks to determine the winning company, who will receive a tailored health program as a reward.
The "Meet & Move" slogan was successfully implemented, with images of people laughing, sweating, and moving together in the park. The event's combination of free, accessible physical activity and the unique outdoor atmosphere appeals to Gütersloh residents, making it a beloved part of the city's summer calendar.
Jennifer Jones, another key organiser, expressed delight over the success of the "Family Fit", "Toy Box", and "Play & Sport for Kids" sessions. The event's success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the organisers and volunteers, who strive to make "Sport im Park" an enjoyable and educational experience for all who attend.
As the sun sets on another successful "Sport im Park", the organisers look forward to next year's event, where they hope to continue promoting fitness, fun, and community spirit in Gütersloh.
