Overnight, Narathiwat witnessed six explosions
In a series of disturbing incidents, six bombs were detonated at various locations in Narathiwat, a southern border province of Thailand, between 7.50 pm on Sunday and 12.30 am on Monday.
The first explosion occurred near a vehicle driven by Asuding Kureng, the head of Ban Sukhay in Chanae district, at 7.50 pm. The incident left Kureng and his passenger, Fasaree Maming, suffering from chest pains and hearing difficulties. Their vehicle was also damaged in the explosion.
In a separate incident, a bomb was detonated in front of a branch of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) on Phetkasem Highway in tambon Bacho, Narathiwat, at 11.55 pm on Sunday. Fortunately, no one was injured in this explosion.
The bombings continued into the night, with explosions reported in Cho Airong district, Sri Sakhon district, and two incidents in Chanae district. In Cho Airong, an explosion occurred at a BAAC ATM in tambon Chuap at 12.05 am on Monday. In Sri Sakhon district, a bomb went off at a BAAC ATM in tambon Tamayung at 12.30 am.
In Chanae district, two bombs exploded: one at Dusongyor mosque at 11.55 pm and the other at Dusongyor market in tambon Dusongyor at 12.30 am on Monday. Remarkably, despite these explosions, there were no casualties in the Chanae district incidents.
Ten minutes before the first bomb went off in Chanae district, tyres were set on fire at a level crossing on Highway 4056 in Ban Ai Batu of tambon Toh Deng in Sungai Padi.
In response to these bombings, Lt Gen Paisarn Noosang, the 4th Army commander, ordered increased security, especially in economic areas. The incidents are under investigation, and more information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
