Detmold Remains Part of Museum's Identity
In a move that addresses significant criticism and reflects the voice of the local community, the LWL Landscape Committee has decided to include "Detmold" in the corporate design of the newly named LWL Museum Helleweg, Westphalian Museum for Culture and History.
The resolution to change the name of the LWL Open-Air Museum Detmold without including the city's name in the main title had caused a stir in Detmold and the surrounding region. Thousands of signatures from a petition were forwarded to the LWL in Mรผnster by the head of the administration, and Mayor Frank Hilker received numerous calls and emails urging him to fight for the retention of "Detmold" in the museum's name.
Cross-party discussions led by Mayor Hilker resulted in the retention of "Detmold" in the communicated name. The city of Detmold will remain part of the brand of the open-air museum, but it will not be part of the main title of the museum. Instead, "Detmold" will be included in the museum's corporate design, appearing in headers and titles of print media and websites, official documents, press articles, public promotional materials, and social media.
The new entrance and exhibition building, scheduled to open in 2026, will feature the inclusion of "Detmold" in the museum's corporate design. The name change will occur simultaneously with the opening of this new facility.
The museum's transition to year-round operation after the name change is not affected by the inclusion of "Detmold" in the corporate design. The LWL Landscape Committee agreed to an internal name change of the LWL Open-Air Museum Detmold, and the new name is "LWL Museum Helleweg, Westphalian Museum for Culture and History".
The search results do not provide information about the persons involved in the discussions between Mayor Hilker and the LWL administration that led to the inclusion of Detmold in the name of the open-air museum. However, the retention of "Detmold" in the museum's corporate design is a step towards addressing the concerns of the local community and the region.
In external communication, the representation "LWL Museum Helleweg | Detmold - Westphalian Museum for Culture and History" will be used. The city of Detmold remains an integral part of the museum's identity, and its inclusion in the corporate design reflects the museum's commitment to preserving its historical and cultural ties to the city.
