The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received a prestigious accolade from the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, recognising its pioneering achievements in digitalization and sustainability.

The award was presented in honour of DEWA's revolutionary digital power transmission substation, known as the 'Smart Substation'. This innovative technology significantly minimizes energy waste and reduces carbon emissions, aligning with the National Strategy for Advanced Innovation.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, expressed pride in receiving the award. He highlighted the importance of the recognition in enhancing government excellence and transforming challenges into opportunities for sustainable development.

The Smart Substation, a part of DEWA's initiatives, has resulted in a carbon emission reduction of 386 tonnes per substation. Additionally, energy savings from these substations eliminate an additional 54 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The advanced design of the Smart Substation has also led to a 15% reduction in construction timelines and a significant decrease in initial costs by AED 2.7 million per facility.

Al Tayer emphasized that DEWA's initiatives align with the National Strategy for Advanced Innovation, aiming to position Dubai as a global leader in clean energy advancements. He stated that DEWA's environment is forward-thinking, transforming innovative ideas into tangible solutions, particularly in sustainability and renewable energy.

Hussain Lootah, the Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, received the award on behalf of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. Lootah expressed gratitude for the recognition and reiterated DEWA's commitment to digital transformation efforts, which contribute to Dubai's commitment to pioneering sustainable and innovative solutions.

The 132/11 kV power substations, including the Smart Substation, are a crucial step toward achieving DEWA's vision of becoming a globally leading sustainable corporation committed to net-zero emissions by 2050.

The Smart Substation's success underscores DEWA's digital transformation efforts, solidifying Dubai's position as a global leader in clean energy advancements. The authority continues to push boundaries in the pursuit of a greener, more sustainable future for Dubai.
