In a significant move, Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW), the operator behind the popular gaming platforms Chumba Casino and Global Poker, has announced that it will be ceasing its activities in Canada starting from October 23, 2025.

From this date, no one will be able to log in to Chumba Casino or Global Poker in Canada. The games on these platforms will stop working for Canadian users as early as September 25. This decision, made after reviewing the market's performance, is not due to Canadian rules, as sweepstakes games are still allowed in Canada.

The company has assured its Canadian users that they can cash out any leftover Sweeps Coins until the final day in October. VGW is working to provide clear details about the timeline and how to cash out before the final shutdown.

This move comes as VGW focuses all its efforts and cash into its US player base. The exit of VGW from Canada shows a growing trend among operators focusing their operations in the US. Sweepstakes gaming brings in about 98% of VGW's global revenue, with the US being the primary source of this income.

The change happens as VGW becomes a private company after shareholders bought it out earlier this month. The company has also reduced its sweepstakes offerings in approximately 12 US states, including New York, New Jersey, and Mississippi, due to regulatory concerns.

Regulators in several states have questioned the legality of dual-currency sweepstakes systems, and this has likely played a role in VGW's decision to withdraw from Canada. The change might allow VGW to be more flexible in how it handles its worldwide strategy.

Notably, the company operating the gaming platforms Chumba Casino and Global Poker from Australia is Double Down Interactive. The pull-out from Canada shows a bigger shift as the company deals with more eyes on it in the US, particularly in Quebec, where tight laws have always kept companies like VGW out but may now present new opportunities.

Canadian players who have used Chumba and Global Poker for years have expressed their disappointment on social media. While Canada had steady users, they remain smaller compared to the US. The decision to close in Canada may allow VGW to further solidify its position in the US market, ensuring compliance with local regulations while maximising its revenue potential.

VGW will keep user information as required by law, and it is encouraging users to stay updated on its official channels for further information and guidance on the shutdown process.
