Online access granted for solar power potential records
The Energy Agency Bavarian Lower Main has taken over the coordination and financial maintenance of the Solar Potential Atlas for the Bavarian Lower Main, a valuable tool for residents in the region. First created in 2014, this atlas has been updated with new geodata and is now accessible for free via the website: www.solare-stadt.de/bayerischer-untermain.
The Solar Potential Atlas serves as a solid basis for starting consultations or obtaining offers from qualified specialist companies. It provides an integrated search for qualified craftsmen for potential solar installations, making it easier for homeowners to check the potential electricity yields from their roofs.
The atlas also offers CO2 savings calculations and information about the suitability of roofs for photovoltaic or solar thermal systems. Additionally, it provides cost-effectiveness calculations for potential solar installations.
The Institute for Energy and Climate Research (IEK-STE) at Forschungszentrum Jülich is currently responsible for the ongoing financing and coordination of the Solar Potential Atlas for the Bavarian Lower Main. The programming and implementation of the updated atlas were carried out by the company Tetraeder.solar.
The Energy Agency Bavarian Lower Main supports the targeted search for specialist companies with its new online platform www.heimvorteil.de. Not only regional trade association specialist companies, but also neutral and individual consulting offers from the consumer service Bavaria and their regional climate protection managers can be found on this platform.
The Solar Potential Atlas is a key component for a sustainable energy supply in the Bavarian Lower Main region. As shown in a photograph, Johannes Brönner - Energy Agency Bavarian Lower Main, along with climate protection managers, stood in front of a climate-neutral city library, whose solar power plant was planned with the atlas.
The Solar Potential Atlas was based on high-resolution laser scan data provided by the Bavarian Surveying Administration in early 2025. It has been a joint project of the city and district of Aschaffenburg and the district of Miltenberg since its inception.
With the updated Solar Potential Atlas, the first regional solar atlas in Bavaria has been brought up to date, both technically and content-wise. This current update marks a significant step towards a more sustainable energy future for the Bavarian Lower Main region.
