Ongoing arrangements for overall restoration in Grugabad
The city portal has announced the commencement of a significant project - the renovation of the historical complex, Grugabad. On September 3, 2020, the Grugabad was added to the monument list, marking the beginning of this extensive renovation.
The project management for this endeavour has been entrusted to Grundstücksverwaltung Essen GmbH (GVE), with a contract volume of approximately 1 million euros. The design planning is expected to be completed by May 2026, followed by the commissioning of performance phases 1-3 HOAI on June 30, 2025.
The Planergemeinschaft, led by the Stuttgart architectural firm Bez + Kock Architekten, Generalplaner GmbH, has been designated as the general planner for the comprehensive renovation. The monument authority has been involved in the planning at an early stage and supports the planned approach.
A multi-stage negotiating procedure with a preceding competitive dialogue was announced for the Grugabad renovation project. Five binding offers were submitted, which include concepts for renovation as well as optional use as a year-round pool. The council of the city portal has approved a budget of approximately 5.48 million euros for the project.
The construction start decision is scheduled for August 2026, with the construction set to begin in October 2026. The comprehensive renovation is expected to be completed by March 31, 2029.
The further development of the Grugabad as an all-year-round pool is subject to a financial reservation due to budgetary and financial constraints. Decisions on the year-round pool will be made by April 30, 2028. The implementation dates for the all-year-round pool depend on the appointment timeline.
