On-demand flights available at 150 euros - is it feasible?
A startup company based at Lake Constance Airport in Friedrichshafen has introduced a new business model, offering "Shared Flight Opportunities". According to Christoph Brützel, the founder and CEO of the company, this model is based on a more or less classic charter model.
The startup aims to offer affordable and profitable flights, with the cost for a seat on a flight priced at 150 Euros, excluding luggage. Each plane can accommodate nine passengers, and the flight duration is approximately one and a half hours.
Currently, the company offers flights to Mönchengladbach, Hamburg, Strausberg near Berlin, and Münster-Osnabrück. However, Brützel did not provide any information about the startup's plans to expand its flight routes in the future.
Brützel questions whether airports should be self-sustaining, suggesting they are part of the public infrastructure. He also believes that such business models will not help regional airports out of their economic crisis, as there is not much revenue to be expected from them.
Despite the doubts about its profitability, Brützel did not discuss the profitability of the startup's business model in relation to chartering a private jet. He did mention that the price for a seat on a flight is reduced for the charter customer by taking on additional passengers.
The first plane took off from Friedrichshafen at 7:30 AM, destination Mönchengladbach. Brützel did not mention the current destinations offered by the startup, nor did he provide any information about the founder and CEO of the company.
In an expert's opinion, the business model of the startup is referred to as "Shared Flight Opportunity". Brützel also raised concerns about the funding of train stations, stating they are not funded by those who use the federal railway. Similarly, he pointed out that the tracks are funded with tax money.
While the startup's new business model is generating interest, it remains to be seen how it will impact the aviation industry and whether it can provide a sustainable solution for regional airports.
