Omsk's Iconic Viktor Blinov Complex Reopens After Major Restoration

The Viktor Blinov Sports and Concert Complex in Omsk has reopened after a major restoration project. Closed in 2020 due to hazardous conditions, the historic venue has now been revived to host hockey matches, concerts, and large-scale events once again.

The reopening marks the complex's 40th anniversary, celebrating its legacy as a key cultural and sporting landmark in the city. Built in 1986, the complex was once a vibrant hub for hockey games, concerts, and city gatherings. However, by 2020, its deteriorating state forced its closure, leaving Omsk without a major events venue for nearly eight years. Restoration work began in 2025, backed by Gazprom Neft, Sberbank, and Gazprombank, and was completed in just ten months.

The project focused on preserving the complex's unique Soviet modernist architecture, including its mosaic panels, marble floors, and original acoustics. Alexander Dyukov, Chairman of Gazprom Neft's Management Board, stressed the importance of maintaining the building's historic character throughout the reconstruction.

At the opening ceremony, Omsk Region Governor Vitaly Khotsenko thanked the workers and partners, calling the revival a 'people's project.' The event was attended by prominent figures, including Deputy Presidential Envoy Sergei Gryzukhin, Russian Deputy Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin, Russian Ice Hockey Federation President Vladislav Tretiak, and Avangard Hockey Club CEO German Chistyakov.

The complex will now serve as the home ground for Omskie Krylia and local youth hockey teams. Additionally, plans are underway to revitalise the surrounding area, transforming it into a new social hub for residents. With its doors open once more, the Viktor Blinov Sports and Concert Complex resumes its role as a central venue for sports and culture in Omsk. The restoration ensures the preservation of a historic landmark while providing modern facilities for future events and community activities. The project also highlights the collaboration between government and private partners in reviving a key piece of the city's heritage.
