Oklahoma State Quarterback Hauss Hejny Suffers Broken Foot, Zane Flores Steps Up

Oklahoma State University's football season has taken an unexpected turn as starting quarterback Hauss Hejny, a redshirt freshman transfer from TCU, suffered a broken bone in his left foot during the Cowboys' season-opener. The injury was made public on Friday.

Hejny made his debut for the Cowboys in the season-opener, rushing the ball four times for 27 yards, scoring a touchdown with a 6-yard run. He also completed 5 passes out of 10 for 96 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Gavin Freeman.

The reports about Hejny's injury have left the Cowboys without their starting quarterback, and it is expected that he will miss significant time. Coach Mike Gundy is waiting for more information before commenting on the injury, but it is likely that redshirt freshman Zane Flores will take over as the starting quarterback against No. 7 Oregon on September 6, 2025.

Flores, who is in his third year at Oklahoma State, did not see action in the 2023 season due to a foot injury and received a medical hardship waiver in 2024. In the game against an unspecified opponent, Flores completed 13 passes out of 20 for 136 yards. In the same game, he also rushed the ball three times for a net of eight yards.

Flores stepped up as the starting quarterback during the game where Oregon defeated Oklahoma State 69-3, and it is likely that he will continue to lead the team in Hejny's absence. Gundy typically does not provide injury updates until the next day, so more information about Hejny's recovery and potential surgery is yet to be announced.

Oklahoma State will visit No. 7 Oregon on Sept. 6, and the team will be looking to make a strong comeback after the injury to their starting quarterback. The Cowboys will be relying on Flores to lead them to victory and build on the momentum from their season-opener.
