Oil refinery workers in Krasnodar reportedly unhurt, authorities refute injury claims
In a recent turn of events, a deepfake video has been circulating on social media, causing confusion and potential harm to the reputation of the Krasnodar Oil Refinery and its Deputy Chief, Andrey Potahov.
The video, created using artificial intelligence technologies, features a man resembling Potahov making comments attributed to him about the alleged drone attacks on the oil refinery. However, in reality, Potahov did not make these comments.
Last night, Krasnodar faced a three-hour drone attack. A fire broke out at the refinery, covering an area of around 300 square meters. The fire was extinguished by 10:00, but one of the technological units at the refinery was damaged as a result of falling debris from Ukrainian drones.
Contrary to the claims in the deepfake video, the official statement about the attack was made by Robert Brovdi, the commander of Ukraine's drone forces. He reported that Ukrainian military drones attacked two Russian oil refineries, including the one in Krasnodar.
However, the original message from the Operational Staff does not contain information about casualties. The photo of alleged casualties, claimed to be from the EMERCOM's Telegram channel, is a fake. As of now, 26 windows on Industrial Street have been damaged, but there is no confirmation of any injuries.
The regional Operational Staff has stated that the information about the attack is a hoax. Residents of Krasnodar will receive all necessary assistance.
It is important to verify information before sharing it, especially in times of crisis. The spread of deepfakes and other forms of misinformation can lead to confusion and harm, and it is crucial to remain vigilant and fact-check information before believing or sharing it.
