Ohio State University's third-ranked team put on a defensive show to outmuscle top-ranked Texas and secure a victory.

Ohio State University's third-ranked team shores up its defense and overpowers top-ranked Texas in an impressive offensive display.

In a highly anticipated season opener, the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes emerged victorious against the top-ranked Texas Longhorns, winning 14-7. Both teams started off defensively, with each committing turnovers on their initial possessions.

The Buckeyes' first points came in the second quarter, courtesy of a 1-yard touchdown run by CJ Donaldson. This score was set up by two defensive penalties on an 80-yard scoring drive. Ohio State further extended their lead with a 40-yard touchdown pass from Julian Sayin to Carnell Tate, putting them up 14-0.

On the other side, Texas quarterback Arch Manning completed 5 of 10 passes for 26 yards in the first half. Manning, making his third career start, and Sayin, playing his first, showcased their potential but struggled to find a rhythm against the stout defenses.

The Buckeyes' offense showed resilience in the face of adversity. After a facemask penalty gave them a first down from the 18-yard line, they ran six straight times to score. A hold in the secondary on Texas also occurred during this drive, but Ohio State capitalised on the opportunity.

Texas had a late rally opportunity in the third quarter, driving to the Ohio State 1-yard line, but failed to score on a fourth-down QB sneak. The Longhorns' Manning finished the game 17 of 30 for 170 yards with a TD and an interception.

Ohio State's Sayin completed 13 of 20 passes for 126 yards and a TD. Star receiver Jeremiah Smith made six catches for 43 yards, with a long reception of 16 yards. The Buckeyes' defense held Manning in check for most of the game, with the first half belonging to the defenses.

Despite the lack of offensive fireworks, the season opener between Ohio State and Texas was a thrilling contest, setting the stage for an exciting college football season ahead.
