NYT reveals hints and solutions for September 6, 2025 puzzle

The New York Times has recently released a fresh and engaging logic puzzle game called Pips. Developed and released on August 18, 2025, the game puts a unique spin on the classic game of dominoes.

In Pips, tiles are placed vertically or horizontally and can connect with each other, but unlike traditional dominoes, they do not necessarily have to match. Instead, the color-coded conditions determine the rules for each space. These conditions include "Number", "Equal", "Not Equal", "Less than", and "Greater than".

For example, in a "Number" space, all the pips in that space must add up to the number provided. In the "Number (1)" space, everything must add up to 1. The answer is 1-6, placed horizontally; 0-3, placed horizontally. Similarly, in the "Number (4)" space, everything must add up to 4. The answer is 5-4, placed horizontally, or 4-6, placed vertically.

In the "Number (12)" space, everything must add up to 12. The answer is 1-6, placed horizontally; 4-6, placed vertically. In the "Number (15)" space, everything must add up to 15. The answer is 5-5, placed vertically; 5-4, placed horizontally.

The "Equal (2)" space requires that all the pips in that space must be the same. The answer is 5-2, placed horizontally; 4-2, placed horizontally. On the other hand, in the "Not Equal" space, everything must be different. The answer is 3-1, placed horizontally; 5-2, placed vertically; 0-0, placed vertically.

If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

Pips is a single-player game, and when players find themselves stuck, the game offers hints to help them move forward. However, these hints only reveal the entire puzzle and force the player to move onto the next difficulty level and start over. As of September 6, 2025, hints and answers for easy and medium difficulty levels are available, but specific examples for harder levels are not provided in this article.

Whether you're a fan of logic puzzles or looking for a new challenge, Pips is a game worth trying. With its unique twist on dominoes and various levels of difficulty, it's sure to keep you entertained for hours. So, grab your thinking cap and give Pips a try today!
