Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, and Siemens Energy were found at the bottom of the index, while SAP, E.on, and Porsche were particularly strong. Porsche AG's CEO Oliver Blume announced his resignation, which may have a significant impact on the automotive giant. Meanwhile, in the technology sector, Porsche's German counterparts such as Infineon & Co are likely to remain largely unaffected by Nvidia's performance, as the company's quarterly results fell by more than three percent in after-hours trading following their presentation on Wednesday.

Across the Atlantic, Jefferies has become more pessimistic about Dermapharm, downgrading the stock from "Buy" to "Hold" and reducing the price target from 49 to 34 euros. The broker's downgrade comes on the back of weak growth prospects and problems with the Arkopharma subsidiary, although the specific analyst's name is not mentioned in the available information. On a positive note, Jefferies has upgraded Cancom from "Hold" to "Buy" and Basler's stock from "Hold" to "Buy", raising the price target for both companies significantly.

In Asia, the Japanese leading index Nikkei 225 gained 0.7 percent, while the Hang Seng of the Chinese Special Administrative Region Hong Kong is trading 1.2 percent lower. The CSI 300 of the most important Chinese mainland stocks fell 0.1 percent.

Looking ahead, the US GDP for the second quarter will be published in the afternoon on Thursday, which is expected to provide insight into the current economic climate.

Finally, JPMorgan has added Siemens with "Overweight" and a price target of 300 euros, suggesting a positive outlook for the industrial giant.
