The city of Landshut, proudly holding the title of "Child-Friendly Municipality" since August 2022, is set to continue its journey of enhancing its child and youth-friendliness with the development of the second action plan.

Over the past three years, many of the 19 defined measures from the first action plan have been gradually implemented. Successful initiatives include accompanied museum visits for children and young people, the establishment of a youth council, neighbourhood walks in the Sanierungsgebiet II Marienplatz-Freyung, and active participation in the redesign of playgrounds.

The second action plan, anticipated to contain up to 15 measures, will build upon these successes. Its development process involves increased involvement of Landshut's youngest residents, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.

The workshop to discuss the second action plan was moderated by Cornelia Scharf, director of the Nuremberg Children's Commission. The event, held at the Alte Kaserne, was a platform for participants to review progress and prepare for the continuation. The workshop participants' work and commitment were praised by Mayor Alexander Putz.

The new action plan is expected to be decided upon by the city council in spring 2026. Before that, a second action plan will be developed over the next few weeks and months, based on ideas generated during the futures workshop. The potential of these ideas is high, according to Mayor Alexander Putz.

Mayor Putz looks forward to the further implementation of the second action plan, in collaboration with children and young people living in Landshut. He expressed his excitement about the potential impact on the city's child and youth-friendliness.

The "Child-Friendly Municipality Landshut" is expected to publish a final report of the three-year implementation phase at the end of June. This report will provide insights into the progress made so far and serve as a foundation for the development of the second action plan.

The city council unanimously voted to extend the seal and start a new implementation phase in April. The next step for the "Child-Friendly Municipal Area Landshut" is to implement planned projects that enhance child participation and improve local infrastructure tailored to children's needs.

The action plan for this title was developed by the city in collaboration with children and young people, reflecting the city's commitment to ensuring a child-friendly environment. The city of Landshut continues to demonstrate its dedication to its youngest residents, making strides towards a more child-friendly future.
