In a thrilling day of action at the US Open, several notable matches took place, with some players advancing to the third round and others fighting valiantly but falling short.

Djokovic's next opponent will be British player Cameron Norrie, who will face Argentina's Francisco Comesana in the second round. Victoria Azarenka, who has become the fifth woman in the Open Era to claim 100 or more singles main draw wins at the hardcourt majors, also advanced to the third round. Azarenka will face either Sloane Stephens or Magda Linette in the next round.
In other news, Aryna Sabalenka, the defending U.S. Open champion and world number one, is aiming for her first major title of the year.
