North West Gambling Board tightens oversight with new SOP training
The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has strengthened its regulatory efforts with a new training initiative. Senior officials recently completed a three-day session focused on refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The program aims to improve transparency, compliance, and enforcement within the gambling sector.
The training took place at Royal Aloe Lodge in Mahikeng, North West, South Africa. It equipped NWGB leadership with updated knowledge and practical tools to align internal processes with legal and policy standards. A key focus was on standardising procedures to tackle financial crimes and illegal betting activities.
The initiative forms part of NWGB's broader 'Back to Basics' program. This includes workshops in partnership with SAPS, the NPA, and other stakeholders to educate law enforcement and prosecutors on gambling laws. The program also addresses links between illegal betting and organised crime while enhancing investigation efforts.
Beyond enforcement, the NWGB has expanded community outreach. Learner awareness campaigns and school activations aim to shield young people from underage gambling risks. Consistent SOPs help the board combat issues like system manipulation and unlicensed machines that expose children to gambling.
A well-regulated gambling sector safeguards both players and the economy. By improving SOPs, the NWGB strengthens its ability to detect criminal activity and protect vulnerable groups. The training reinforces the board's commitment to responsible regulation and social accountability.
