Nizhny Novgorod's Bold Initiative Empowers Older Adults Through Skills and Community

A new educational initiative called Active Longevity. Nizhny Novgorod Region is underway, running from October to December 2025. The programme invites 300 residents aged 55 and above to develop skills, improve health, and engage more actively in the region's social and economic life. The selection process was competitive, with 5,438 applications submitted for just 300 spots. On average, 18 candidates vied for each place in the programme.

Participants will explore five modules: *Regional Opportunities*, *Professional Longevity*, *New Technologies*, *Silver Volunteering*, and a cross-cutting module, *Active Longevity*. The curriculum includes seminars, workshops, lectures, team projects, and meetings with employers. Interest clubs will also provide additional learning opportunities. By the end of the programme, organisers expect several measurable outcomes. These include higher employment rates among older adults, improved digital literacy, growth in entrepreneurial projects, better financial management skills, and a reduced strain on local healthcare services. The top 100 participants, chosen based on individual performance ratings, will receive diplomas. Finalists and the most engaged attendees will be awarded certificates and letters of appreciation.

The programme's structure focuses on practical results, from job placement to digital competence. With 300 participants now enrolled, the initiative aims to demonstrate how older adults can contribute to—and benefit from—the region's economic and social development.
