Nissan unveils its 2026 X-Trail NISMO: Set for a September release, this hybrid, high-performance SUV aiming to compete with the upcoming Toyota RAV4 GR Sport is now on the market.
The 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO has been unveiled, marking a significant step for NISMO, Nissan's performance partner, as they venture into the medium SUV market. This new model boasts a unique blend of sporty styling, enhanced performance, and advanced technology.
Under the hood, the 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, acting as a generator for the 1.8kWh battery pack. The vehicle is equipped with e-4ORCE electric-drive all-wheel control technology, which is specifically tuned for enhanced line-tracing while accelerating through corners. The power distribution and acceleration characteristics are tuned for each drive mode, ensuring an optimal driving experience.
The powertrain remains capped at 157kW and 525Nm of torque, but the all-wheel-drive system, coupled with Kayaba Swing Valve shock absorbers, promises a balanced body motion and maximized ride comfort. The power steering has been optimized to complement the suspension and tyres, providing a responsive and agile driving experience.
The exterior of the 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO features dark chrome accents, a front under spoiler with a central NISMO logo, red-accented side under spoilers, a rear diffuser-shaped lower edge, and racing-inspired rear fog lamps. These design elements contribute to a 29% decrease in aerodynamic lift compared to the standard X-Trail. The vehicle rides on Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres encasing 20-inch Enkei wheels with wider openings for improved brake cooling.
Inside, the interior boasts a black foundation with red accents, with "NISMO-tuned" Recaro seats available as an option. The chassis tuning and suspension changes, including the swing valve dampers, are made by the specialist firm Kayaba (KYB), and the styling features wheels manufactured by renowned Japanese wheel maker Enkei.
The 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO will face competition from the GR Sport version of the new-gen 2026 Toyota RAV4 hybrid. The Toyota RAV4 GR Sport AWD has more power at 224kW, allowing for a faster 0-100km/h dash of 5.8 seconds compared to the X-Trail NISMO's 7.0 seconds. However, the specifics of the Australian market for the 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO remain uncertain, with prospects appearing to be zero at this time.
If the 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO were to arrive in Australia, it is expected to cost more than $60,000 plus on-road costs. The vehicle will go on sale in Japan on September 24. With its focus on performance and styling, the 2026 Nissan X-Trail NISMO is poised to make a mark in the competitive medium SUV market.
