Nissan Micra undergoes renewal with assistance from Renault
The sixth-generation Nissan Micra is set to roll off the assembly line in northern France, marking its return to the automotive scene after a brief hiatus. This compact car, once popular in the early 1980s, disappeared from the scene in 2022 following five generations.
Now, the Micra is making a comeback as an electric vehicle, aiming to compete aggressively in the small electric car segment. The new Micra will share its platform and powertrain with the Renault 5, a move that signals a strong partnership between the two automotive giants.
The Micra's sporty appearance is enhanced by its 18-inch wheels, providing good handling and a responsive drive. Its steering feels as direct as a Mini in its class, and during spirited driving, the Micra exhibits low body roll and a responsive brake system.
Customers can choose between two electric motor options. The base model offers a 90 kW electric motor with a 40 kWh battery pack, while a more powerful version boasts a 110 kW electric motor and a 52 kWh battery. This setup promises lively acceleration and a maximum torque of 245 Nm.
The Micra is primarily designed for local traffic and has a maximum charging power of 100 kW. Its trunk space is quite spacious, offering ample room for everyday essentials. The front passenger space is generous, but the rear is only suitable for small children or small dogs.
The base price of the sixth-generation Micra is expected to be around €27,000. The pricing is expected to be close to that of the Renault, with the base model priced around €26,500 and the top trim around €34,375.
Nissan sold around 307,000 vehicles in Europe in 2021, compared to nearly 580,000 in 2017. The company is aiming to return to its successful past in the automotive industry with the launch of the Micra.
Sales of the sixth-generation Micra will begin at the end of the year. With its sporty design, electric powertrain, and competitive pricing, the Micra is set to stir up the automotive scene once again, just like Nissan did with cars like the 350Z, Qashqai, and the Leaf.
