Nio Reports Increased Electric Vehicle Deliveries in Q2 2025, Despite Persisting Heavy Financial Losses

In a recent financial report, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio revealed a substantial loss in the second quarter of 2025. Despite this setback, the company's CEO, William Li, highlighted the strong market acceptance of the Onvo L90 and the new Nio ES8, which boosted sales momentum.

Nio's sales increased by 25.6% year-over-year and 71.2% compared to the first quarter of 2025. The company delivered a total of 72,056 vehicles between April and June, with the main Nio brand accounting for 47,132 units. The new volume brand Onvo contributed 17,081 units to the total sales.

The financial report also showed a 12.4% increase in gross profit, reaching 1.9 billion yuan. Nio's vehicle business revenue grew by 2.9% year-over-year to 16.1 billion yuan (approximately 1.95 billion euros).

However, the financial situation of Nio remains tense, with the company accumulating losses of over 100 billion yuan (more than 12 billion euros) since its founding in 2014. The loss figures for the second quarter of 2025 are higher compared to the same period in 2024. The net loss for Q2 2025 was 4.99 billion yuan (around 600 million euros), while the operating loss was 4.91 billion yuan (approximately 590 million euros).

Despite these losses, Nio remains optimistic about its future. The company expects deliveries between 87,000 and 91,000 vehicles in the third quarter, representing a growth of 40.7% to 47.1% year-over-year. If achieved, this would set a new record for the company.

Moreover, the introduction of the compact car brand Firefly in April 2025, with its first models delivered in China, added 7,843 vehicles to Nio's total sales.

Electrive reported these developments in Nio's financial situation. As the company continues to innovate and expand its product line, it remains to be seen how it will navigate the challenges of the electric vehicle market in the coming quarters.
